Active
Participation and Individualized Instruction
When students have something
to hold, handle and manipulate, learning becomes fun and productive.
Pic-Wizard® keeps students actively engaged and
provides immediate feedback to increase self-esteem.
Pic-Wizard®
can quickly and easily address all levels of ability within one
class. Higher performing students will select cards at a more challenging
level while special education, bilingual
and ESOL students will work on their independent levels so they
experience success immediately. All students will move themselves
up through the levels at their own pace, without pressure. (The
Audio CD will build in success for all
students and will help students stretch towards higher levels.)
Benefits
(teacher and student testimonials)
- “My
7th graders stanines on our standardized test were higher than
any other year prior to using the Pic-Wizard® cards.
Students were able to experience a sense of accomplishment after
completing a set. A great way to learn new vocabulary and a great
interactive approach to strengthening vocabulary.” 7th
grade teacher
- “Pic-Wizard®
works for students of all ages; meeting the needs of special education
students and gifted students alike, and the cards are designed
the same so no one feels like they’re doing different work.”
5th grade teacher
- “I
could work at my own pace and not be in competition with everyone
else.” 9th grade student
- “It
was fun and helped me to learn my vocabulary better. They were
much better than worksheets. And you could work with a partner
or alone. I like that choice. 6th grade
student
- “Students
like them because the feedback is immediate and since they are
not a test, there is a certain fudge factor that students enjoy.
Also, I’ve observed some of them using the same pack over
and over trying to get them all correct.” Middle
school librarian
- “I
like Pic-Wizard® because you get to poke in the
hole to see if you are right. It’s fun to do Pic-Wizard®
with a friend too.” 1st grade
student
- “It’s
fun because I learn the words quickly and I remember them better.”
7th grade student
- “Pic-Wizard®
broadens vocabulary. Homophones are useful because students actually
use sentences with the words used.” 4th
grade teacher
